In the leadup to the launch of their debut album “Fiesta de Corazon” in November, La Descarga Band is thrilled to announce the release of their single and video, “Cumbia de Corazon” on Friday, 6 September, from 8:00 PM at Shotkickers in the heart of Thornbury. The event will be supported by vintage tropical vinyl priestess, DJ Emma Peel, who will spin treasure tunes from the golden days of Colombian tropical music. "Cumbia de Corazon is a heartfelt tribute to Colombia and a dedication to Australia, crafted in the infectious rhythm of Cumbia. It's all about our journey, our emotions, and just celebrating where we come from while enjoying where we are now” says Jorge Leiva, band leader.

The “Cumbia de Corazon” video will top the night, a colourful splash of togetherness, filmed in vibrant, familiar locations, highlighting the power of shared culture and community collaboration. Shot by the rising talent Cesar Miranda Bautista, the video promises to be a stunning highlight, bringing the sounds, energy and spirit of “Cumbia de Corazon” to life.

La Descarga is an iconic Latin-Australian band renowned for their vibrant performances that seamlessly blend Colombian vintage tropical music with contemporary sounds. DJ Emma Peel instagram.com/djemmapeel Emma Peel is a beloved radio broadcaster and DJ in Melbourne, celebrated for her vibrant Dj sets, vintage flair and encyclopaedic knowledge of music from all parts of the world .

For the past 20 years, Emma has graced the stages of major Australian festivals such as Dark Mofo, Womadelaide, Falls Festival, White Night, and Vivid, among many others. She’s known for her latin music collection, and is a regular on Melbourne-based Colombian pico sound system, El Gran Mono. She’s also supported icons of world music such as Jorge Ben, Eddie Palmieri, Marcos Valle, Joe Bataan and more.

For over 16 years, Emma has hosted her popular weekly radio show, Switched On, on Melbourne’s PBS FM. She’s also appeared on Radio National, JJJ, RRRFM, and all the major television networks.

Dora Moreno Zúñiga doramoreno.com Colombian artist and industrial designer currently living in Melbourne. She works the painting mostly in acrylic and gouache on canvas and digital illustrations for textile prints. Her work is inspired by a kaleidoscopic look of personal experiences in her hometown, Cartagena, Colombia. It is through the legacy of the festive colour of the Caribbean that feeds the tradition of popular culture, where the artist braids emotional and experiential moments of Cartagena.
